Small but famous for its monuments, Liskiava is situated on a most beautiful left bank of the Nemunas River, 8 km to the northeast from Druskininkai town. There are 4 archeological monuments in Liskiava: a mound, a sacred hill, Church Hill, stone with the footprint of an ox and so called “Stone of Witches”.
Two monuments of architecture: sacral assemble from the end of 17th century (church, monastery, household premises, belfry, monumental post, the fence of the church yard, the stairs to the church yard), a castle remains of a tower of the 14th -15th century, and 14 monuments of art.
People lived in the area of current Liskiava already in 20th century before Christ. There was a wooden castle on the mound in 6th c. BC 9th c. AC. A brick castle was being built in the junction of the 14th and 15th centuries and was ceased after the Grünwald battle.
In 1699 a Dominican monastery was established in Liskiava.
In the beginning of the 18th century the monks created a harmonious and architecturally interesting assemble of free layout, consisting of a church, a monastery, additional and household buildings. The Church of the Holy Trinity has remained unreconstructed until nowadays.
The Liskiava assemble is a significant monument, interesting for its situation, harmonious architectural forms, art synthesis. The church of the assemble is the only sample of central-cupola baroque composition in the province.
In 1999-1997 the church was renovated and brought to a new life. In the cellar of the church a museum of religious art is opened.
