Public institution Liskiava cultural centre in the summer of 2006 has started to realize a profect ’’Organization and arrangement to tourism of ensemble of Liskiava abbey’’ which main goal is to adapt Liskiava abbey to needs of tourist and cultural activities.

It is a wonderful baroque pearl in southern Lithuania, which is richly visited by tourists from all over the world and Lithuania. The dominant and adornment of the whole ensemble – Saint Trinity church, the building of glorious late baroque.
In 1990 – 1997 for the church was done major repairs and breathed new life by efforts and care of parson canon Valius Zubavicius. In church’s sepulchres in open coffins are remained remains of Jacobins, there is set exposition of liturgical heritage.
Before 310 years in Liskiava lived Jurgis Kosyla with his wife Kristina, the founder of this ensemble, by testament of the 22nd of April in 1697 he left all Liskiava property to Jacobins on condition that they, who had come from Seinai to Liskiava, would build a church for glory of Saint Trinity also the abbey and would stay there. Jacobins put the will of founder into execution and this fine ensemble has remained till nowadays.
This building of late baroque is decorated by frescos painted by Italians, 7 baroque – rococo altars, old authentic benches with tarsias of Jacobins and sacral thematic paintings of XVIII – XIX centuries. Jacobins in this abbey lived not very long, from 1699 till 1813, because the then civil government did not let them welcome newcomers into the abbey, as a result the abbey being unable to renew died. In 1813 when the last Liskiava monk died, bishop by his decree gave all abbey buildings with the church to parish to administrate. Regrettably, Jacobin abbey in Liskiava has not renewed till nowadays.

Here used to come tourist groups from foreign countries, about 40 – 50 people. Parish parson took care of their settlement, nourishment.
In 1941 buildings of the abbey were nationalized by Soviet government, from 1947 for thirty years there was Liskiava school, from 1977 in these buildings established sartorial association ’’Lelija’’. This corporation administered, repaired buildings, newly roofed over thus protecting this ensemble from total disappearance.
In 1998 by the decision of government of the Republic of Lithuania was committed a task for Alytus district administration of director to found a public institution Liskiava cultural centre, which would make cultural, educative, tourist activities.
